title To the sheriff of the county of [blank] Greeting. Whereas the General Assembly of the state of Connecticut granted and laid a number of taxes, viz. [blank] on all the polls and rateable estates in said state, for public service: and whereas the part and proportion of said taxes arising upon the polls and rateable estates of the town of [blank] according to the lists thereof sent in to the Assembly, there still remains unpaid the sum of [blank] lawful money, as per account of the state treasurer, whereof execution remains to be done. And whereas [blank] was chosen and appointed by said town of [blank] to collect said rates or taxes ... but so far failed and neglected within the time limited by law to pay in said taxes to the said treasurer ... These are therefore by authority of the state of Connecticut, to command you, that the goods and chattels of the select-men of said town of [blank] or any of them, within your precincts you cause to be levied, and same being disposed of as the law directs, paid and satisfied unto the said treasurer of this state for the time being the aforesaid sum of [blank] lawful money, together with the lawful interest to the first day of December, 1785, ... Hereof fail not, and make due return of this writ, with your doings thereon according to law, within sixty days next coming.
